SA JUNIOR HEIFER EXPO - INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

CATERING
ALL FOOD for participants is included in the SAJHE entry fee. (For any parents and friends wishing to attend the dinner a fee of $5.00 per head will be charged.) Adult assistance is greatly appreciated at these times

LOCKERS
Lockers (1.5X1.8M) are automatically provided for all entrants. Two entrants will share a locker. For specific locker requests please complete the attached form.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT A BED AND/OR MATTRESS AND WARM BEDDING ARE PROVIDED BY OCCUPANT.

CLOTHING
WARM AND WATERPROOF CLOTHING IS ESSENTIAL.

MEDICATION
Please be aware that the committee cannot administer analgesics eg. Panadol, to participants. If they are required they will need to be supplied by the entrant or parent.

PARENTS / GUARDIANS / TEACHERS
The Council requests that parents especially of younger children give consideration to "living-in" at the Showground for the duration of the Expo. Cost is $50 per person to cover the cost of meals.  Parents help with supervision, particularly during the evenings and at night-time would be greatly appreciated.  Parents are accommodated in general sleeping areas however lockers may be utilised if required (depending on availability)

STOCK ENTRY TO SHOWGROUND
Due to safety reasons, large barriers will be erected by the RA&HS of SA Inc., and all cattle must be unloaded within the barriers. No exceptions. Trucks, trailers, horse floats to line-up outside the Beef Cattle Pavilion.
Entry will be via the Leader Street Entrance from 12 noon until 4pm Monday 14th July (committee excluded).  Please notify your carrier.

HEIFERS/STEERS - BEDDING ARRANGEMENTS
Sawdust is supplied. Please bring appropriate tools for mucking out, e.g. rakes, shovels, fine tine forks, brooms.
The quick removal of manure will ensure that the sawdust will last the full show. Do not dig out wet patches. Do not disturb the bedding base.

JOHNE'S DISEASE MANAGEMENT
The use of hay nets is highly recommended
Keep shed aisles and wash bay free from faeces
Do not tether or feed animals outside in uncontrolled areas.
Accredited animals are to have their feet hosed off before returning to stalls.

NO CLIPPING SHUTES TO BE ERECTED 
All animals are expected to be prepared prior to coming to the Expo. Senior Herdsman, are exempted, as this is part of their criteria for entry.

HEIFER EXPO MANUAL
The Heifer Expo Manual will be placed in the satchels for Novice entrants.
Additional copies are available from the Rural Services Department for $12.00

INTERSTATE EXHIBITORS
You are welcome to stay overnight on the 17th July, following the completion of the Expo, if desired.
You will however, be required to depart early on Friday morning, to allow the sheds to be cleaned.

SETTING UP - FRIDAY 11th JULY
Exhibitors, families and friends are reminded of the enormous task undertaken by a small group of Committee members and helpers each year to set up judging arena and surrounds, compile satchels for entrants, and assist with general preparations for the Expo

CLEAN -UP THURSDAY 17th JULY
All entrants are expected to ensure that their cattle stall, loft above cattle, and lockers are left clean and tidy. ALL sawdust is to be placed in appropriate bins. Rubbish should be put in bins. Senior entrants are requested to assist the Committee with the shed and arena clean up prior to their departure.

 

Please note that no competitor is to leave the grounds
unless official permission has been granted.
